Get in Touch

Grishneshwar Mandir is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the town of Verul, near the city of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. The temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India, which are considered the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. The lingam (symbol of Lord Shiva) in the temple is believed to be self-manifested (swayambhu). The temple has a rich history that dates back to ancient times, with several renovations and additions over the years. It is believed that the original temple was built by a devotee named Brahmavetta Sudharm in the 18th century. The temple is associated with several legends and myths, including the story of a woman named Kusuma, who was cursed by a sage and turned into a demon. She was later freed from the curse by Lord Shiva, who appeared in the form of Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga and blessed her. The temple follows the Hemadpanthi style of architecture, with a tall tower and intricate carvings. The temple complex also has several smaller shrines and a large courtyard. The Shravan mela is a major festival celebrated in Verul during the Shravan month, attracting thousands of devotees from all over India. The festival is marked by a grand procession of Lord Shiva's lingam from the temple to the nearby Kusuma Sarovar, and devotees visit the temple to offer their prayers and seek blessings. Another major festival celebrated by the temple is the Mahashivratri. The temple is located near the famous Ellora Caves in Verul, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is known for its ancient rock-cut temples and sculptures. Overall, Grishneshwar Mandir is a significant pilgrimage site in India, with a rich history, unique architecture, and elaborate rituals. The temple attracts millions of visitors every year, particularly during the Shravan month and Mahashivratri festival. The temple's religious significance, legends, and myths, along with the natural beauty of Verul town and the nearby Ellora Caves, make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Hinduism and Indian culture.
