By Air

The nearest airport to Tirupati is Tirupati Airport (TIR), which has limited domestic connectivity. The airport is approximately 16 kilometers away from the temple. From the airport, taxis are available to the Tirupati Balaji Temple. The journey takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions. Alternatively, you can also fly to Chennai International Airport (MAA) and then travel to Tirupati by road or rail.

Tirupati Railway Station (TPTY) is well-connected to major cities across India. Many trains pass through Tirupati. Once you reach the railway station, taxis, auto-rickshaws, and buses are available to the Tirupati Balaji Temple. The temple is located in the Tirumala Hills, approximately 22 kilometers away from the railway station. There are frequent bus services and shared taxis available for the uphill journey to the temple.

Apart from Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, Varahaswami temple, Tiruchanur temple of Goddess Padmavati, Govindaraja temple, Srinivasa Mangapuram, Avanakshamma temple, ISKCON Lord Krishna Temple, etc. are the important temples in Tirupati. Kapila Theertham, Parasurameswara Temple in Gudimallam, Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple, Chandragiri Fort, Kanipakam, Srikalahasti, and Talakona Falls are famous tourist places nearby.

Do's
  • Only Hindus are allowed to visit the temple.
  • Pay obeisance to your Ishta Daivam or Kula Daivam before you start for the Tirumala pilgrimage.
  • Book your travel and accommodation in Tirumala well in advance.
  • Bathe in the Swami Pushkarini and worship Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy in his temple before you go to worship Lord Sri Venkateshwara Swamy.
  • Bathe and wear clean clothes before you enter the sanctum shrine of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
  • Concentrate on Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy inside the temple. Observe absolute silence and chant 'Om Namo Sri Venkatesaya' inside the temple.
  • Bathe in the Papavinasanam and Akasha Ganga tirtham in Tirumala.
  • Respect ancient customs and usages while at Tirumala.
  • Respect and promote religious sentiments among co-pilgrims.

  • Don't Wear any head guards such as helmets, caps, turbans, and hats inside the temple premises.
  • Don't Commit any act of violence or harshness on the temple premises.
  • Don't Rush in for darshan instead of waiting for your turn in the queue.
  • Don't Enter the temple; if according to custom or usage, you are prohibited to enter.
  • Don't Wear flowers at Tirumala temple, as all flowers of the sacred Seven Hills are for the Lord only.
  • Don't Encourage beggars.
  • Don't Spit or be a nuisance inside the temple premises.
  • Carrying of weapons & ammunition to Tirumala is prohibited and pilgrims in possession of licensed weapons/ammunition should declare the same at the Alipiri checkpoint and submit all the concerned documents, failure to do so will invite legal action.
